As an update, the BBC appear to have upped the transmitter power lately, so the Freeview box is now watchable, even "Midlands Today"

Bernard,

Sorry about the delay, I have been doing other things.

Regarding Eclipse, when I told the IT guys at work I had gone with Eclipse, they looked at me as if I had gone mad, one of them knew the company... but I can't publish what they said. So when things appeared to go alright, they were pleasantly surprised and so was I after all they said.

The google comment in my post was put in deliberately for balance.

If I was to do this again, I would have got all the components I wanted from Ebuyer and built it (and saved myself three weeks of worry) or as a friend did, they bought all the bits from Eclipse in person and built it themselves. They are easier to deal with face to face.

So I am sorry you have a negative experience with them, you are not alone.

Regarding the Warranty, I checked with this before purchase and they said that the system as a whole would be covered if unopened. After I had opened, the warranty would cover the individual components that they supplied. So if the gtfx card went wrong, I would have to contact them and then return the card alone, once they had supplied a returns number. I have this in an email from them. This assumes they would honour what they said in the email. If sending by mail order, they would have to be very well packaged as any sign of bent pins then they wont want to know. I can take stuff in person to them as I am close by.

As for glueing, I guess it could be to stop you swapping components for dead ones... but not sure why. Get a sharp knife ready and a steady hand.

Good Luck.

can I please just ask a question, Froggy ?
you say you opened the case up to install a DVD drive ?
doesn't this mean you have now invalidated the RTB warranty and if something goes wrong with your PC now that Eclipse will refuse to fix it ?

I had a much more negative experieice with Eclipse - I joined the gang !
You say it was neat inside - surely opening up the case invalidated the warranty though ?
I've not opened mine yet but will do as I need to fix or replace the jammed DVD drive - I hope thats nit glued firmly in - why do they do that ?
When the PC arrived - after a month - it had a wonky graphics card too. Eclipse won't fix it but I'm using the onboard
I'll know to google a PC maker next time !!
