The I AM statements of Christ in John’s Gospel
John 10:7-9John 10:7-9
English: World English Bible - WEB

7 Jesus therefore said to them again, “Most assuredly, I tell you, I am the sheep’s door. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out, and will find pasture.

This statement occurs as Christ replies to some Pharisees regarding blindness. He uses the illustration of the shepherd, sheep and the fold and here describes himself as the door, the only true way into the fold.

This statement is followed by and linked to “the Good Shepherd.” The picture I think here is that he shepherd and the flock are out in the fields or wilderness and it’s time to turn in for the night. They wouild go to a sheepfold which was a circular wall with one entrance. Once the sheep were inside, the shepherd would camp at the door, so nothing could get in or out without him knowing.

Christ is the only door. He says “I am the door.”, not a door but the door. Many resent this teaching that Christ is the only true way to salvation, but Christ Himself states this.
